How to Split - Step by Step

  1. 1Do a mite test on the parent colony first.
  2. 2Move 3 frames of brood + adhering bees to a new box.
  3. 3Add 2 frames of honey/pollen.
  4. 4Introduce your mated queen in a cage.
  5. 5Fill remaining space with drawn comb or foundation.
  6. 6Move the split to a new location (2+ miles or use a screen) to retain foragers.
  7. 7Feed both halves 1:1 syrup for 2 weeks.
  8. 8Check for eggs/laying in the split after 3-4 weeks.
